A Catechism is a manual of Christian doctrine drawn up in the form of questions and answers, especially one for religious instruction. The first such manual was compiled in the 8th century. Emphasis on the use of a catechism, particularly its memorization by rote, has diminished in recent years. Here we make available several of the most well known Catechisms in the church. The First Book treats of the knowledge of God the Creator. But as it is in the creation of man that the divine perfections are best displayed, so man also is made the subject of discourse. The dogma of the Trinity came up not by itself in abstract form, but in inseparable connection with the doctrine of the deity of Christ and the Holy Ghost. If this latter doctrine is true, the Trinity follows by logical necessity, the biblical monotheism being presumed; in other words: If God is one, and if Christ and the Holy Ghost are. That doctrine was not only written and preached by the leading elders and editors of the Church, but it was discussed in many meetings and schools–such as the School of the Prophets in Provo. From the minutes of that school came these views: F. McDonald– I thought I would speak briefly in relation to Adam being our God.

Thus much on the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. Let us proceed to another example.
